SUNY Poly’s Dr. Babak Elahi, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, was awarded a $50,000 grant through the State University of New York’s (SUNY) Embedding Industry Credentials in Academic Coursework (EICAC) initiative.

Dr. Steven M. Schneider Named SUNY AI for the Public Good Fellow

SUNY Poly Professor Dr. Steven M. Schneider, co-director of the university’s Artificial Intelligence Exploration (AIX) Center, has been selected as one of the inaugural SUNY AI for the Public Good Fellows.

SUNY Poly Launches Bachelor’s in Physics Program

SUNY Poly expanded its academic offerings with the launch of a new Bachelor of Science in Physics program, providing students with a strong foundation in the fundamental principles that shape our understanding of the physical world.

Data Science and Analytics Program Ranked in Top 20 Nationally

SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s Master of Science in Data Science and Analytics (MS DSA) program has earned national recognition from TechGuide for both its academic quality and affordability. The program was ranked #18 in TechGuide’s 2026 Best Master’s in Data Analytics Programs, placing it among the top 20 programs in the nation, and was also recognized as one of the most affordable Data Science master’s programs in the United States.

International Mathematics Workshop Held at SUNY Poly

In July 2025, scholars from around the world gathered at SUNY Polytechnic Institute for GMSPD 25, a workshop where geometry met computation. For five days, mathematicians, physicists, and engineers explored how abstract ideas—like discrete exterior calculus, fibered manifolds, and structure-preserving methods — shape the way we model the physical world.

Dr. Orlova Explores Cold-Climate Adaptations in Bumble Bee Societies

Dr. Margarita Orlova, Assistant Professor of Biology at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, was recently invited to publish a review in Current Opinion in Insect Science. Her article, “Ice queens: bumble bee social organization shaped by adaptations to cold climates,” explores how ecological factors such as cold climates and short foraging seasons shaped unique social structures in bumble bee nests and unusual physiological mechanisms maintaining queen dominance.

Exploring the Universe: Dr. Shing-Chi Leung Advances Astrophysics Research with SUNY Poly Students

SUNY Poly Assistant Professor of Physics Dr. Shing-Chi Leung is advancing research into some of astrophysics’ biggest questions through a series of studies published in The Astrophysical Journal. His work examines how stars explode, how supernovae shape the chemical composition of galaxies, and whether primordial black holes could help explain dark matter.

Dr. Kazuko Behrens Advances Global Research on Attachment and Development

SUNY Poly Professor and Psychology Program Coordinator Dr. Kazuko Behrens is advancing the global understanding of attachment, emotional development, and the role of culture in human relationships. A recognized expert in mother-child attachment and one of fewer than a dozen certified Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) trainers worldwide, Dr. Behrens recently served as guest editor of a special issue of Attachment & Human Development examining the continued relevance of John Bowlby’s attachment and separation theory. The issue explores how caregiver-child separation affects families facing circumstances such as migration, foster care, and global conflict, while identifying new directions for research and clinical practice.

Dr. Fariborz Offers New Look at Hidden Structure Inside Subatomic Particles

SUNY Poly Professor of Physics Dr. Amir Fariborz recently published a paper in Physical Review D, a top-tier journal, titled “Spinless glueballs in generalized linear sigma model.” The work takes on a central challenge in modern physics: understanding how the strongest force in nature shapes the inner structure of matter, and how it may produce an unusual form of matter made entirely from the carriers of that force.

SUNY Poly’s Tyler Allen Recognized by OHM BOCES

Tyler Allen, senior laboratory specialist in the SUNY Poly’s College of Arts and Sciences, was recently recognized with the School to Career Programs Made a Difference Award from Oneida-Herkimer-Madison (OHM) BOCES, receiving the award in recognition of his commitment to mentoring students through the Regional Program of Excellence, where he provides hands-on internship and shadowing opportunities at SUNY Poly.
