{"id":876,"date":"2021-10-01T14:13:21","date_gmt":"2021-10-01T14:13:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/annualreport.sunypoly.edu\/2022-2023\/?page_id=876"},"modified":"2023-10-27T17:33:52","modified_gmt":"2023-10-27T17:33:52","slug":"presidents-message","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/annualreport.sunypoly.edu\/2022-2023\/presidents-message\/","title":{"rendered":"A Message from Officer-in-Charge Dr. Andrew Russell"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I am pleased to present SUNY Polytechnic Institute\u2019s 2022-2023 Academic Year Annual Report, in which we showcase select educational, research, and economic engagement efforts that continue to foster this institution\u2019s reputation as a leading catalyst for immersive learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We boast a robust and vibrant academic and research ecosystem that provides a powerful education-to-career-pipeline for our students:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>U.S. News &amp; World Report <\/em>ranked SUNY Poly #2 for \u201cTop Public Schools,\u201d in the Top 20 for \u201cSocial Mobility,\u201d among the Top 50 for \u201cBest Value Colleges,\u201d and #3 for \u201cBest Colleges for Veterans,\u201d all in the 2023 \u201cRegional Universities North\u201d category.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the 2022-2023 academic year, we were proud to welcome 3,200 students\u2014continuing strong sustained enrollment year-over-year, even at a time when many institutions still face economic headwinds. Our targeted educational approach provides access to careers in high-demand areas, and our partners range from nearby community colleges to industry collaborators, inspiring students at all levels via exciting career paths, whether they study liberal arts, engineering, nursing, or interactive media and game design.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our faculty researchers have secured millions in external funding to advance fundamental knowledge in areas such as engineering and community health. We are also excited about our partnerships, such as with Wolfspeed, supporting a STEM scholarship program and two endowed faculty chair positions, in addition to many other hands-on research opportunities with New York State\u2019s growing industry collaborators.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There have been recent updates to SUNY Poly&#8217;s Cabinet and College Council.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sunypoly.edu\/about\/office-president\/presidents-cabinet.html\">President&#8217;s Cabinet<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sunypoly.edu\/about\/office-president\/college-council.html\">College Cabinet<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SUNY Poly is strategically poised for success.<\/strong> We embarked on a campus-wide strategic planning process by developing a framework that emerged from a collaborative and consultative process. The process identifies five themes that have been identified by our community as central to our mission and strategic direction. These include:&nbsp;<ul><li>Human capital to nurture community and enable growth&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Robust external partnerships&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Campus infrastructure<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Academic programs, research, and scholarship<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Renewal of SUNY Poly\u2019s identity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information and updates about this ongoing process, <a href=\"https:\/\/sunypoly.edu\/about\/office-president\/strategic-planning-process-2023.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">please visit here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of note, this report covers highlights from SUNY Poly\u2019s four colleges, in addition to the College of Nanoscale Science &amp; Engineering, which subsequently was transferred to the University at Albany in August 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the headlines have been filled with many economic and societal challenges, SUNY Poly continues to advance. We strive to act meaningfully to support our critical diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. We focus on innovative experiential and online learning opportunities. We facilitate extra-curricular activities that foster an exciting, well-rounded student experience.
